A Case For Technical Advocacy

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

We at Community Technical Outreach believe that often times, non-profit organizations need help with deploying technology inside their organizations.  Whether in the form of custom software development, database design, or web site services, they need an advocate in their corner with decades of experience in these matters.

That’s where we come in.  CTO members have a wide variety of expertise including software development, network security, database design, and education.

Do you have a project that requires software but you’re not sure how to proceed?  Do you have a software project underway and are not sure that you’re communicating your needs properly with the developers you’ve hired?  Are you not sure you’re getting what you’ve paid for?

Let us be your advocate.  With CTO, you can be sure your interests will be protected in all your technology projects.  Make sure you’re getting the most out of your budget in these tough times.  Our services are free; which means you can’t afford not to have us in your corner!

The Start

Friday, April 18th, 2008

When the idea for Community Technical Outreach first came up amongst a group of local technology professionals, it was as if I was saying what everyone else in the room had already been thinking.  They all had a similar desire to get out into the community and make a difference, too.  I felt like all we really needed was coordination and organization.

What everyone instantly understood was the frustration of having all one’s hard work, experience, and education focused solely on personal gain.  The frustration is especially acute because we live in a world where our children leave school without the skills they need to compete, where our communities don’t reach their potential, and where people are sick, hungry, and homeless.  We all understood the feeling of powerlessness inculcated by our daily routines of meetings, software, and spreadsheets.

From this, Community Technical Outreach was born.  We believe that those same things that bring value to the shareholders can bring value to the community, too.  How?  By offering that same experience and education to the non-profit community in our area.  We may not be able to cure the sick, house the homeless, draft legal agreements, or be daytime teachers, but we can help. We can improve an operation’s IT infrastructure to make operations more efficient and let dollars stretch farther. We can protect organizations by reviewing technical contracts and specifications. We can bring our enthusiasm for technology after school to the future problem solvers of our community.

You can be a part of it. We can make a difference!
